Working Principle

  4. Moisture removal: The moisture-laden air is drawn out of the drum through an exhaust system, typically using a fan or blower.
  5. Discharge: The dried materials, with reduced moisture content, are discharged from the drum through an outlet.
  6. Heat recovery: In some cases, the hot air may be recirculated back into the drum after being cooled and cleaned, allowing for energy efficiency.

These steps are repeated continuously as the drum rotates, ensuring efficient and consistent drying of the materials.

Structure of Rotary Drum Dryer

  1. Drum: It is a cylindrical vessel made of durable materials such as stainless steel or carbon steel. The drum is horizontally mounted and rotates on its axis.
  2. Feeding System: This system consists of a feed chute or conveyor that delivers wet materials into the drum.
  3. Flights: Inside the drum, there are flights or lifters attached to the inner surface. These flights lift and shower the materials, ensuring proper contact with the hot air for efficient drying.
  4. Burner: A burner or heat source is used to generate hot air that flows into the drum. It can be fueled by natural gas, coal, biomass, or other sources.
  5. Hot Air Distribution System: The hot air is distributed evenly throughout the drum to ensure uniform drying. This may include ducts, baffles, or other mechanisms.
  6. Exhaust System: It consists of an exhaust fan or blower that draws the moisture-laden air out of the drum. The air may pass through filters or cyclones to remove dust or particles.
  7. Discharge System: The dried materials are discharged from the drum through an outlet, which can be equipped with a discharge chute, conveyor, or other means of transport.
